Where'd the Bass Go? Empty Where'd the Bass Go?

Post by Cjanz Fri May 23, 2008 5:09 pm

Lately, all I hear is guitars with too much treble. Where's that low, bass sound? Personally, I feel that too many bands are excluding bass from the ensemble by completely overdubbing it with guitar. I mean, even if you want to have the guitars balanced over the bass some, at least give the bassist some time to shine. Cut the guitars, and let him/her throw a great bass line in. I don't know, I mean, it's another reason I've turned almost completely to Death Metal, which still incorporates bass to great extents.

It bothers me that good bass bands are hard to find though. Thoughts?

Yeah I find the fact that the bass is getting overshadowed now to be dissapointing. I mean their a still rock bands like Primus and RHCP that the bass is a large part of the sound but Death Metal is really the only genre to feature the bass prominantly.

Well, there are plenty of other Metal genres with great bass, I just notice it the most in Death Metal.

But yeah, there are certain Rock bands that stay true and keep bass alive, but they are outnumbered by those who don't.

To tell you the truth, there aren't many good bassists out there anymore, (not to insult my people. Just to state a fact.)
Rammstein has a few bass lines, most of which are rather simple, but still has it as a driving force to many of their songs. Primus has amazing bass lines, I learned one of theirs because a friend made me. But bass can be replaced by a rhythm guitar. I mean, people right now really do like the entire light, happy, and high, thing. Therefore, we replace good music, for popular music. How I hate the influence of popular society.

The reason there aren't many good bassists anymore is the effect the mainstream bands have had on society. Bass is becoming obsolete because of popular influence, not lack of desire.

On occasion, there are some really good bass grooves in music, and it's like "Hey, this sounds good!" I noticed this with Womb Disease by Bury Your Dead, check it out!

I love when bands showcase the bass, and let it have a moment to shine.
