    Breakdowns: Love/Hate? Empty Breakdowns: Love/Hate?

Breakdowns are a popular thing in music right now. Especially with many of the rock and -core bands. Do you think they're being overused, or are they the best thing in a song?

Personally, I love them, but I think they're nowhere near as creative as they could be. Some bands do a great job with them, but some just copy the good bands and take away from the originality.

I think that right now the potential of breakdowns are barely scratching the surface of what they really could be, I do enjoy them though

Breakdowns when done right like anything can be awesome but some bands focus to much on the breakdown and not enough on the song.

Yeah, that's a huge problem in Deathcore right now. Although I do like a number of bands in that genre, many of them are just taking the same chord and changing the progression a tiny bit. Although none of them actually sound bad, they aren't anything new either, which is discouraging.

I'm a fan, when it can be pulled off. Even without the originality, if they have the idea of the intense, heavy moment in the song, where everyone in the room drops to headbang and people get rocked moshing, then it works for me. Sure having something new in a song is good, but hell, why fix a sink if it aint broken, amirite?

Yes, but I think it gets to the point where bands could be a lot more creative.
