Lyrics

I often find that people can misconstrue lyrics to a great extent. For example, Metal lyrics can be rebellious, grotesque, violent, and "indecent". Or so, that's what they're considered. The problem with this is that people aren't looking for the underlying messages within the lyrics. They choose to take it literally, and shun it, instead of searching for the bigger picture. This bothers me immensely, and I've seen it with many other genres of music. Does this bother you? Also, do you often try to find the true meanings of songs? Discuss.

Most people think Closer by Nine Inch Nails is about sex when it's actually from the needle's prespective going into a herion addict. If you look closely to the lyrics it makes a lot more sense that way then it does for sex.

yes i agree, many people misunderstands the menaign of lyriccs in music. Personaly, i think that most people just choose to ignore it

Lyrics have been misunderstood in songs for a long time. Even a hendrix song, "Scuse me, while I kiss the sky, was misinterpreted by some to be "Scuse me, while I kiss this guy." Many times people hear lyrics and don't even give it the Benefit of the doubt and believe what they want to believe. Which is stupid.

Lyrics to me are one of the biggest parts of the song and most people tend to ignore them and that bugs me.

I don't really understand it. Lyrics are so huge in music, and people just seem to overlook them without a second thought. Not all people, but a good number...

Many people like the beat, and the music companies noticed it seems. As the lyrics don't mean anything anymore, I wish I lived in the day when lyrics actually meant something.

This is why I stick to my Metal.

Underground rock put empahsis on lyrics, it's just this mainstream garbage filling up the airwaves that makes me mad.

It's all about money now. Hardly any of these mainstream bands are in it for the music, and if they think they are, they have an extremely loose grasp on what music really is.

That's why I appreciate people like Trent Reznor who are trying to bring back the music to mainstream "music" by releasing his album for free.

Yeah, I'm glad about bands who are doing that.
