Ok, in modern day music, which of these genres is staying most original? Original, meaning, which genre is sounding fresher and more innovative?

Re: Metal vs. Rock
As a whole, because mainstream isn't exactly innovative right now.

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Well I tend to like Rock better but as a whole it seems like Metal is the more innovative of the two with it's complicated song structures and many different styles.

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Yeah, I have to lean towards Metal too, I think it's just being way more productive. Rock seems all in all, an entirety of mainstream.

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Both are beginning to sound more fresher and creative, however I must say that metal is becoming more original.
It seems now that the newer bands for rock are all starting to sound the same or tending to go towards the alternative genre. Bands such as FallOutBoy and P!ATD are recently calling themselves rock..and if so, they sound exactly the same. original? no. Bands like TheAcademyIs..., Cartel and Breaking Benjamin are all starting to sound the same lyric wise. Also, they are calling themselves rock(ish). Although I know very well that those bands are alternative rock, that is still the rock genre all together and recent bands are just sounding all the same.

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Rock USUALLY doesn't even have the solos Metal has. And let's not forget the range of vocals for metal (high screams, low growls, pig squals, etc). Rock is all pretty much the same now. Metal just has more sounds and usually has more deep lyrics too (who could guess that Master Of Puppets (one of the greatest, most legendary metal songs EVER) is about cocaine addiction? And who can guess Bleed It Out (by linkin park [shudder, are they really rock? yuck!]) is simply about suicide?
Master Of Puppets is an old example, but newer metal is still pretty complex and can be analyzed in many different ways
those are just my thoughts

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Well to be honest, it depends on which you mean, the lines there blur a lot. By metal do you mean curent day metal and all of its branches? And does AC/DC count as metal or rock? Because in their day, they were the heaviest that metal came, and now they are laid back, practically Easy Listening.

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Well, I wouldn't call Linkin Park the most innovative band out there.

Re: Metal vs. Rock
Metal is way more innovative than rock is, sadly, all rock is becoming is just mainstream crap. Metal is pushing the genre to a new level.
