What songs do you think are masterpieces? Of corse their are the obvious ones like Stairway but I would of have to say I Stay Away by Alice In Chains. I'm sure no one else will agree with me but everything about this song is just right and completly awesome.

The Light That Blinds by Shadows Fall has phenomenal guitar work in it. One of the best Metal songs out there.

Back in Black by AC/DC, that song just flows, the licks are amazing, the solo rocks hard and Brian Johnson's singing just puts the frosting on the cake.

To state the obvious, Stairway to Heaven, but their are other zep songs that went in to a realm of music that no one had gone before, then got copied like crazy shortly after.
    Other pretty obvious ones
House of the Rising Sun- Animals
Wish you were here- Pink Floyd
Many beatles songs qualify as well.
I was going to expand, but I have something else in mind, you'll see what I mean in a bit, stay tuned!

Opeth's "Windowpane". I love that song, and it's so vocally and instrumentally illustrated. It just really takes you there.

I would have to say Ruiner by Nine Inch Nails. It just keeps building and building till the solo and it's just the mood it creates. It's quite heavy.

The song Subliminal Servitude by Anomalous has many different moods to it. I've been listening to it a lot, and I think it's a masterpiece considering it belongs to 5 a song EP which is all the band has released thus far.

The End by the Doors. It's just one of those songs that you can't really explain you have to listen to it know.

I've never really paid much attention to The Doors. I might have to check some of their stuff out.
