I think in the future the main music genre associated with the '00's will be hip-hop. I don't like it, but it has been fighting to become popular for some time now and has finally hit the jackpot.
Hopefully it will evolve and get better though and a new genre of music with arrive for the next decade. I'm not saying I want hip-hop to die off, but I would hope things will progress and advance to a new form of music, that will hopefully be better than hip-hop is these days.
So generally the main form of music in the charts these days I don't like, but every so often something worthwhile pops up and there are good artists out there, they are just rarely seen as it's hip-hop's turn to be in the spotlight.

As far as Metal is concerned, I think a lot of good stuff has been released over the past few years and a lot of great new bands have turned up.
Mainstream music doesn't really do anything for me, if you want to find something new, with a bit of originality to it, then - like someone else on here said - you have to be prepared to look a little bit deeper. Don't be contented with what the mainstream media force feed you - there's a lot of amazing stuff out there!

i dont like alot of todays music, not alot of it has any meaning to it anymore. recently its been all about the money and not the music. the one thing that gets on my nerves is rap, the majority of rap has absolutly no meaning what so ever. there are a few rap artist that have songs with meanings, but pretty much all of it is just about their hoes, bling, and 22's on thier escalade.

Alot of todays music is disappointing and full of sell-outs. Rock has lost much meaning. Metal is the only thing I can stand from the modern era.

Yeah now a days it's all about getting the next hit "Ringtone" and not about the actual music itself with rap. A few rappers are trying to put an end to that like Nas who I can respect because they actually care about the music.

I can't really respect many rappers at all. All they do is talk in rhymes they think up in advance while people with skill put down beats for them and back-up singers actually sing with proper tone and good voices. I can't stand it that they don't get any of the credit they deserve, since they are the ones with the actual skill. What I will give to rappers is this, however: They Generally have an excellent stage presence.

It's hard to respect Rap because of the image it puts out nowadays. It's no longer about the music.

I have more hope for the next decade, it seems that many great underground rock bands are finally starting to get noticed thanks to the internet. This decade has probally been the worst in terms of mainstream rock but hopefully the 2010s will be better.

The record companies have too much control nowadays, they only care about money, not music quality.
