I think only a few bands are keeping original, too many are drifting towards modern and alternative. So tired of Nickelback and Hinder!

Honestly not to many good things going on in the mainstream so you have to dig deeper to find some good stuff. TV on the Radio is very orginal and they are not that well know among the masses.

That's because people are becoming more hardheaded and don't recognize talent anymore.

It's like anyone is doing anything to get famous and they're completly ignoring the brilliance in creating their own, original sound instead of what everyone wants to hear.

Like I said before not much originality in the mainstreme nowadays so you have to look deeper.

I think that behind the superficial voices of today we are rotten underneath. We use songs from earlier time periods as a backbone. We aren't really known for much of any particular style of music today.
But then again, if our world is being corrupted, it shows in the music.

Yeah I agree with you bands today use music from past time because it was way better and everyone liked it unlike today IMO I can't stand most rock bands today they all sound the same to me.

i mean sure it would be great if every band's sound was different than the next but bands today see that famous bands from the past like led zeppelin, metallica, and others blew up the billboard, they know what works and what has worked for the past 40 some years, they are using it to their advantages.
I mean if it worked back then, why not incorporate it into their music? Sure originality would be nice but most bands want to make money, so they use what has been proven to work the best.
this is only my opinion, and a pretty biased one because i love 2000 era-esque music. (rock and metal in paticular)

Metal is staying pretty orginal when it comes down to it. I know if I were in a band I wouldn't be in it for the money. Sure it's nice, but damn, often not worth selling out for. Also, Rock in general...Hmmm, the mainstream stuff is really annoying because it all sounds the same. There has been some decent stuff like Audioslave, but they've broken up now...

IMO Rock really hasn't been that good inthe mainstream since the mid 90s but I have a feeling we're about to hit another creative peak in the mainstreme within the next ten years becuase it usually go's in cycles like that.

I've almost completly given up on today's Rock. I usually can stand Hard Rock, but that doesn't cut it anymore. Now I turn to some Hardcore, and a lot of Metal for my music.
